Know your child

I didn't realize the following statement can have negative connotation until today. "He doesn't study hard but he's smart."

If a child's personality is moving away, then the statement would encourage him to study hard. However, if a child's personality is moving forward, then the above statement would make the child jump up and never study this subject again. If the child's personality is moving forward, then the correct comment is "He has potential."

I wish all parents know their children well.
