See the talent in your child

How can you see the talent in your child?

If you have the same talent as your child, you know your child's talent.
If you have the interest but don't have this talent and your child has this talent, you know that your child has this talent.
If you don't have the same talent and interest as your child, you probably need to find another way to figure out the talent in your child. You probably want to observe your child and write down what he's good at every 2 weeks.

If you don't see your child spend too much time on a subject yet he excel in this particular subject, it's very likely that he has the talent in this subject.

Come back to your talent

If you're bored with your talent, try to do something that you totally don't have any talent with. You will soon come back to your talent.

Know when to run

If you need to buy lots of books to find examples to do your work, you probably want to find another career to work on. If you need to buy lots of books to find examples in order to understand a subject, you probably want to search for another major. If you have the talent, you probably won't bother to buy too many books.

When I was in college, I have hard time understanding Physics. I thought if I buy lots of books and read those books, I might eventually understand the subject. I realize now that I should change major as fast as I can when I need to buy lots of books in order to understand a subject.

When I began my career, I was a computer programmer. I spend an enormous amount of time buying computer books in order to understand the programming language and to find the code samples for my work. I soon realize that I should change my career as fast as I can.

A person who has talents in a field don't usually need to buy lots of books. They can grasp the concept in 5 seconds. They don't need to find the examples because they can easily create the examples themselves.

Find the right one

Pick a book to read. If you spend 10 minutes and you have hard time reading it, you might want to pick up another book to read.

Pick a career to work on. If you spend 10 days and you have hard time doing it, you might want to pick another career to work on.

We don't change to fit a job or career. We try out different career until it clicks. Once we find the one (the career), we stay with this career.

You know how good you are.

You know how good you are.

If you have a job and you feel anxious or frustrated every time you work on it, you probably should change to another job. If you feel that your job is no brainer and you can easily produce great result, it's very likely that you have talent with this career.

Know your child

I didn't realize the following statement can have negative connotation until today. "He doesn't study hard but he's smart."

If a child's personality is moving away, then the statement would encourage him to study hard. However, if a child's personality is moving forward, then the above statement would make the child jump up and never study this subject again. If the child's personality is moving forward, then the correct comment is "He has potential."

I wish all parents know their children well.

There are rules in everything. If you search these rules and follow these rules, you tend to get similar result.
