pattern vs. knowledge

In the interview, people hire you because of

a. your extensive knowledge
b. your personality matches the interviewer

After this many interviews, I'll start to say (b). In the interview, if the personality matches, the interviewer will always say, "he/she can do it". If the personality doesn't match, the interviewer will always give an excuses, "oh, he/she is too sharp for this job position. This job position requires more human interaction skill." You might be wondering why I even bring up this topic. Well, I have interviewed for 6 job positions. The previous 5 job positions has turned me down. On the 6th job position, the personality seems to click and I got the job. I know, I know. Many of you will say that my knowledge for the 6th job interview matches what the interviewer wants. Well, I apply for similar positions for all 6 jobs.
